Shira is Staples' Chief Executive Officer, President and a member of the company’s board of directors.
She joined Staples in 1992 and has served in a number of leadership roles across the company. She was most recently Interim Chief Executive Officer from June through September of 2016. Prior to that, Shira was President of North American Operations, where she had responsibility for Staples’ business-to-business, online and retail operations across the United States and Canada. Previously, she was President, North American Commercial (NAC), responsible for Staples Advantage, which serves medium-sized to Fortune 1000 businesses, and Quill.com, which serves small to medium sized businesses. In addition, she was head of the company's supply chain and customer service operations in North America.
Before serving as President of NAC, Shira was Executive Vice President of Staples Global Growth group, responsible for identifying and developing new sources of growth and driving Staples’ best growth ideas across the company. In that role, Shira led the development and launch of Staples’ Reinvention as well as the company’s highly successful Make More Happen branding campaign.
Previously Shira was Executive Vice President of Human Resources, leading Staples’ global HR strategies and programs, and Executive Vice President of Marketing, responsible for Staples’ marketing, advertising, public relations and charitable giving programs. She also led the company’s global business integration efforts following Staples’ acquisition of Corporate Express in 2008 and has held senior executive positions in the company’s delivery business units, which serve business customers of all sizes.
Shira came to Staples from Bain and Company where she was a Manager. Staples was one of her clients and she helped develop the strategy to launch Staples’ catalog business.
Shira sits on the Board of Directors of CarMax, Inc. She holds a Master of Management Science degree with a concentration in strategy and marketing from MIT’s Sloan School of Management, a J.D. from Harvard Law School and a bachelor’s degree from Princeton University.
