"As part of Staples’ long-standing commitment to sustainability, our goal is to continue to build on the opportunities for our customers to implement environmentally preferable products into their daily routines"

Staples introduces the innovative new Sustainable Earth by Staples™ Calculator, with a plastic casing made from recycled ink and toner cartridges comprised in part from cartridges Staples collects from its customers as part of its Staples Rewards® program.  The Sustainable Earth by Staples Calculator recently launched in Staples stores and on Staples.com just in time for Earth Day.  In 2010, Staples customers in the U.S. recycled more than 61 million cartridges, which helped divert more than 30 million pounds of plastics and metals from landfills.

“As part of Staples’ long-standing commitment to sustainability, our goal is to continue to build on the opportunities for our customers to implement environmentally preferable products into their daily routines,” said Mark Buckley, vice president, environmental affairs at Staples.  “By working together with our customers, we have reduced the amount of waste in landfills, and created an innovative, functional calculator.”

Staples customers are rewarded for recycling through the Staples Rewards® program and receive $2 in rewards for each ink and toner cartridge that is recycled in-store.  Rechargeable batteries and personal electronics can be recycled in store for free including PDAs, cell phones, and digital cameras.  Dell® products can also be recycled in store for free and the Staples certified EasyTech associates can help to securely transfer data from the computer.  Additional office products can be recycled in store for a small fee.  For more information on Staples’ commitment to sustainability please visit: www.staples.com/environment.
