Quill Communications Changes Domain Name To Quillcom.com
FRAMINGHAM, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Staples.com, Staples Inc.'s (NASDAQ:SPLS) electronic marketplace that provides office supplies, services, content and community over the Internet, today announced it has acquired the Internet domain name, www.quill.com, from San Diego based Quill Communications, Inc., a marketing technology company that integrates strategy, technology and creativity to build brands.
Effective April 1, www.quill.com will be the primary domain name for the office supplies direct marketer Quill Corporation, which Staples purchased in May 1998. Customers will still have access to the Quill office supplies Web site through the existing domain name, www.quillcorp.com. Quill Communications has used the www.quill.com domain name since 1993 and will change its domain name to www.quillcom.com. Quill Corporation will provide a link from its home page to www.quillcom.com for visitors seeking Quill Communications via its former domain name.
"Quill Corporation has excellent brand recognition among small and medium businesses and acquiring www.quill.com will help us grow the online business," said Jeanne Lewis, president of Staples.com. "Quill Communications quickly understood our needs and supported our efforts. With this new domain in place, we plan to invest in quill.com's marketing and site development to increase sales and usability."
"Our business is to help companies build brands online and offline," said Steve Edwards, chief executive officer of Quill Communications. "We saw the brand opportunities for Quill Corporation with www.quill.com, the shortest, easiest to remember URL available."
