"Non-traditional work hours are a reality for many, and we want to be there for the student needing paper or a toner cartridge to finish a term paper or the business professional requiring Copy Center services or technology products for an important presentation the next morning"

WESTBOROUGH, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--In response to the needs of its small business and student customers, Staples is offering the added convenience of a third channel for 24-hour shopping with the launch of 15, 24-hour superstores in select cities around the country. Staples, the pioneer of the office product superstore, is the first in this industry to open 24-hour superstores.

"We recognize that many of our small business and student customers work around the clock and want to shop for office supplies or use our full-service Copy Centers whenever it's most convenient, even if it's 3 o'clock in the morning. With today's hectic pace, sometimes the only opportunity to shop for office supplies is in the off hours and we are making these Staples stores available to those customers," said Jim Peters, president, U.S. Stores.

Because of its success in four pilot locations, Staples is going 24-hours in 15 existing locations, stores chosen for their close proximity to college campuses or which service dense urban business populations. The 24-hour stores include:

Alhambra, Calif.
Studio City, Calif.
West Los Angeles, Calif.(1)
Bloomington, Ind.
Brighton, Mass.(1)
Danvers, Mass.(1)
Framingham, Mass.
Tysons Corner, Va.
East Lansing, Mich.
Fayetteville, N.C.
Manhattan, NYC
Yonkers, N.Y.
Springfield, N.J.
Springfield, Penn.(1)
Bryn Mawr, Penn.

"Non-traditional work hours are a reality for many, and we want to be there for the student needing paper or a toner cartridge to finish a term paper or the business professional requiring Copy Center services or technology products for an important presentation the next morning," said Peters.

Customers can order office products 24 hours-a-day via fax through the Staples catalog and since November 1998, customers have had the convenience of 24-hour shopping over the Internet with Staples.com. The roll-out of the 24-hour retail store program provides a third way Staples can offer this service, specially designed for customers who prefer to shop at a Staples store, use the Copy Center or who need to pick up a last-minute item.
