Staples Inc. (NASDAQ:SPLS) today named Christine Komola vice president and chief financial officer for Staples.com and J.B. Lyon vice president of business services for Staples.com. Both positions report to Jeanne Lewis, president of Staples.com.

"Christine and J.B. will be instrumental in helping Staples.com reach its aggressive goal of one million customers and $1 billion in sales by 2003," said Lewis. "With her outstanding financial expertise, Christine is perfectly suited to navigate Staples.com through its explosive growth and manage our capital structure with the new tracking stock. J.B.'s experience leading the development of Staples.com combined with having run his own small business, makes him the ideal person to spearhead our efforts to be - the place where business does business."

As vice president and chief financial officer for Staples.com, Komola will oversee the financial strategy for the Staples.com business unit. She joined Staples in 1997 and most recently was vice president of planning, margin and control for Staples Inc., responsible for financial analysis and long-range planning, budgeting, forecasting and financial accounting. She has played a major role in the company's acquisition strategies and the e-commerce efforts. Prior to joining Staples, Komola was with Ernst & Young, LLP, where she specialized in audit practice and mergers and acquisitions, and consulted with major retail and financial services clients. A resident of Needham, Mass., Komola is a C.P.A. and a graduate of Miami University in Oxford, Ohio.

In his new position, Lyon will lead the evolution of Staples.com's recently launched Business Solutions Center, a comprehensive online resource of essential services and information for small businesses. He joined Staples in 1996 as senior associate of strategic planning, led the initial launch of Staples.com, and most recently was vice president of marketing for the company's e-commerce division. Prior to joining Staples, Lyon founded and managed Uncle Dave's Kitchen, a Vermont-based natural pasta sauce and condiment packaged foods company with national distribution. He has also worked as a financial advisor with Coopers & Lybrand LLP. Lyon resides in Wayland, Mass., and earned a B.A. from Tufts University and a M.B.A. from Harvard Business School.
