Staples.com Names Kelly A. Mahoney Chief Marketing Officer

Staples Inc. (NASDAQ:SPLS) today named Kelly A. Mahoney chief marketing officer of Staples.com. In this newly created position, Mahoney will be responsible for driving brand awareness and marketing strategy for Staples.com and will report to the division's president, Jeanne B. Lewis.

"Kelly has a wealth of expertise in developing and executing tremendously successful cross-channel, e-business and national brand marketing campaigns," said Lewis. "I'm thrilled to have someone with her talents leading our marketing initiatives as we strive to be the destination for businesses - the place where business does business."

Mahoney will focus on creating and directing strategic marketing programs for Staples.com to build brand recognition, drive traffic and increase sales. Key components will include traditional and non-traditional on- and off-line media, such as Web-based promotions, national television, radio, print, direct mail and guerilla and viral marketing.

With over 16 years of experience in customer base management, Mahoney has a strong background in e-business, direct marketing, channel integration, business-to-business marketing, sales and customer support. Most recently, she was senior vice president of marketing and e-business at Essential.com, based in Burlington, Mass., a Web-based energy and communications superstore. Prior to that, Mahoney was chief marketing officer at Arnold Direct, the Boston, Mass.,-based integrated marketing division of Arnold Communications, where she was instrumental in growing the client base by more than 60 percent. At Arnold, she developed marketing programs for national brands, including Bell Atlantic and Staples Inc., as well as pre-IPO businesses, such as JuniorNet. Additionally, Mahoney was senior vice president at Bronner Slosberg Humphrey, based in Boston, Mass., where she developed customer base management strategies for clients, including IBM, AT&T and Federal Express.

Mahoney serves on the advisory board of USHealthNet, an Internet start-up, and served on the executive committee of the board for the American Teleservices Association. She has won numerous awards for her efforts, including the New England Direct Marketing Award for her work with The Walt Disney Company. Mahoney is a graduate of the University of Michigan, and resides in Dover, Mass.
