"Support from Staples and its customers is critical to ensuring that every child has a safe place to go after school which offers educational opportunities, caring adults and character-building experiences."

FRAMINGHAM, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Staples, Inc. (Nasdaq: SPLS) marked the company's 17th anniversary today by announcing a national campaign to raise funds for Boys & Girls Clubs of America (BGCA). Starting May 18, the Staples Foundation for Learning will donate 10 percent of all Staples brand 30-percent recycled copy paper sales, up to $500,000 to BGCA.

"During after school hours in America, approximately 15 million children are at home with no adult care or supervision," said Roxanne Spillett, president, Boys & Girls Clubs of America. "Support from Staples and its customers is critical to ensuring that every child has a safe place to go after school which offers educational opportunities, caring adults and character-building experiences."

A national BGCA sponsor, Staples supports a wide range of educational and after school programs through the Staples Foundation for Learning. Introduced last year, the Foundation provides funding to programs that support job skills and education for all people, with an emphasis on disadvantaged youth.

"In celebration of Staples' 17th anniversary, we are furthering our commitment to the Boys & Girls Clubs and embracing their commitment to make a difference in the lives of children nationwide," said Ron Sargent, president and CEO of Staples, Inc. and president of Staples Foundation for Learning. "As an alumnus of the Boys & Girls Clubs, I can attest to the importance of providing educational opportunities that make it possible for kids to realize their full potential."

The program applies to all purchases of Staples brand 30-percent recycled copy paper in Staples stores and on all delivery orders placed on Staples.com, StaplesLink.com and via catalog. In addition to raising funds for the BGCA, the program promotes Staples brand recycled paper to further create demand for recycled products. As part of its commitment to protecting and preserving natural resources, Staples supports a wide range of environmental initiatives, including the purchase and promotion of recycled content products.
